DEAR LORD,
Deep within my heart lies a longing for real significance and purpose -- a longing that you have given me. But too often I have much lower ambitions. Why is my first instinct to look out for myself? Why does that come so easily? It's more difficult, more costly, but more significant to look out for others. I know that , but I need your help to do it. Whenever I think about myself first, I waste an opportunity to have eternal impact. Please grant me the awareness to know if my actions are accomplishing what glorifies myself--and will therefore never last beyond this life--or what glorifies you and will stand for all eternity. Lord, please give me a heart that seeks your glory.
***[Those who are rich] should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.
I TIMOTHY 6:18-19***
"Store up for yourselves, treasures in heaven . Where theives and robbers cannot break in...." this is a very simple way to memorize this verse and understand it. It is childrens song that I have heard and sang during my time of service in children's ministry. As an adult I think of something else when I hear this verse or hear my children sing this song. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT? its a very good question to ask yourself. What do your accomplishments have to show for all your work? Are you buliding up treasures here on earth ? Things that will fade away with time. Things that you cannot take with you once you leave this earth. This childrens song is the perfect teaching tool , telling us what is important. Buling up our foundation in heaven , putting our treasure there where we know for certain it is safe and we cannot be robbed of it. Once you have done and are doing this , material things on this earth become different to you. ( No more camping outside of stores for black friday to be the first one in and get the coveted electronic of the season) Im thankful that I can see this a something that does not matter and focus on what does. Our biggest treasure at this time are our children, building them up strong in the Lord so they will be ready for whenever and wherever the Lord calls them into service.
